This evening was the beginning of a shocking time for the parents of two children who were cared for in the affected daycare center in Cologne. During the interrogation of the mother today, the presiding judge did not explain exactly what can be seen in the photo. Only that much: “It is recorded in a situation where the accused was changing the diaper of the two-year-old girl“. In order to reassure the mother, he adds that more than one video or photo sequence was not created – according to everything that is known, the recordings were not made available to third parties either.
The accused was not allowed to swaddle children
The girl in question was looked after in the daycare center in the so-called back-up facility in May last year. A possibility for parents to have their children supervised outside of normal childcare hours. The mother always assumed that educational staff would take care of the children, including in back-up care.
The accused was employed as a jumper without training. Although he was not allowed to swaddle children, accompany them to the toilet with a few exceptions, or put them to bed, he apparently ignored it. There was probably no four-eyes principle either. Although the mother continues to place her daughter and son in the day care center in question, she would no longer make use of back-up care.
