The king of winter makes his rounds at the weekend: the biting cold is replaced by a mild climate. The meteorologist says the temperature rise will be significant.
Meteorologists said good morning from freezing Norway on Wednesday Chirping.
Filefjell had therefore recorded the lowest temperature of the year at 32.8 degrees below zero, while places like Finse and Hemsedal in the mountain areas had between 25 and 30 degrees.
– It will also be bitterly cold in the coming days, but maybe a couple of degrees warmer than on Wednesday, says Unni Nilssen, head of service at the Meteorological Institute.
So it’s not just about the high mountains of southern Norway, but about the whole country:
– It will be mostly winter, very cold until the weekend.
Nilssen says eastern Norway and mountainous areas will experience cold winter weather and slightly variable cloud cover, with clear skies into and including Saturday and possibly some snow on Sunday.
In the north, snow will fall in great quantities.
– You need to find the snow tray only if you live north of Stad and Dovre, the meteorologists wrote Chirping Wednesday.
Most of the snow through Sunday evening is expected in Nordland. In some parts of Helgeland 60–90 cm of snow could fall, in the rest of the county 25–50 cm is expected.
Danger landslides in the north
An orange-level avalanche danger was announced in large parts of Northern Norway on Thursday.
– Low polar pressure with strong winds and lots of fresh snow creates the possibility that avalanches could trigger themselves, meteorologists write Chirping.
The weather shift comes on Monday as warmer air and low pressure activity arrives from the Atlantic. First to Western Norway, then Eastern Norway and further north.
– Temperature doesn’t increase by the same amount everywhere, but the difference will be significant for most people. In many places it will be ten to twenty degrees warmer, Nilssen says.
It can get cold in the east
In Northern Norway, it is uncertain whether it will be mild enough to melt the fresh snow.
– It looks like it will be a white Christmas in several places, says the forecaster.
In the coastal areas of western and southern Norway, it appears that the precipitation will turn into rain and that the snow that has arrived will melt with the extra degrees.
– There is also a certain risk of rain in the Oslo area from Tuesday. If there’s enough rain where there is snow, it could be frozen in the east, says Unni Nilssen.
