The coastal path at Angle Cove

Wednesday September 22 at 2:30 pm at the port of Bouzigues took place the presentation to the public of the works of development of the coastal path of the “Cove of the Angle”.

Emmanuelle Darmon, sub-prefect, Matthieu Grégory, departmental director of the Territories and the sea of Hérault, Cédric Raja, mayor of Bouzigues, Yves Michel, president of the Syndicat Mixte du bassin de Thau, mayor of Marseillan, were present for this press point followed by a guided tour of part of the trail.

Protect the coastline

The Customs Trail was created in 1791 to protect the coastline, organize rescues and prevent smuggling. It was in 1967, faced with private appropriation, that the law re-established the right of way for pedestrians.

The “littoral” law of 1986 reaffirms this principle of French law of free access for all to the shore.

Since 2016, the departmental direction of the Territories and the Sea of Hérault has been developing the coastline and 12 km of footpaths have already been from Vendres to Vias. Today, nearly 1,000 m of footpath has just been developed at Crique de l’Angle, “popular site for Bouzigauds and walkers, who appreciate the wild and unspoiled character of this path which overlooks a breathtaking view of the pond”, explains Cédric Raja. The elected representative signed an agreement with the State for the sustainability of equipment and routine maintenance by the municipality.

All the speakers congratulated themselves on this operation which was implemented quickly, proving that projects can materialize when all partners work together.

They underlined the interest of this achievement which must continue in the months to come. The study, which should last a year and a half, will make it possible to plan the continuation of it, so that the coastal path follows the periphery of the pond, some places being private and requiring more advanced reflection. All also noted the concern for the development of a coveted and very frequented territory and the desire to preserve professional activities alongside tourism and water sports.
