Party associations “For Development / For!” the faction has nominated a deputy of the 13th Saeima for the position of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MEPRD) Parliamentary Secretary Plesšu. At the co-operation meeting on Monday, the coalition partners were informed “For Development / About!”.
As the Prime Minister emphasized, it will now be a matter for the partners to support or not to support Plesša’s candidacy. “I am pleased to thank the partners for nominating the candidate. It is not good for the government to work in an incomplete staff for a long time,” said Prime Minister Kariņš.
During this week, the candidate for the position of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Plešs will be heard in the Saeima factions, after the faction meetings the political forces will decide on possible support for Plešs.
The Minister of Justice, the leader of the New Conservative Party (JKP) Jānis Bordāns noted that the political force had already discussed the issue of the vacant position of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development and saw that it could be filled by “For Development / For!” leader Daniels Pavļuts. However, given that the political force decided to nominate Plesu, his candidacy will be assessed.
While the coalition partners are still evaluating Plesis’s candidacy, one of the constituent parties of the opposition Greens and Farmers Union (ZZS) – the Latvian Green Party (LZP) – has stated that the MEPRD should not be led by an incompetent minister.
LZP believes that “Extending the position of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development is not only hasty, but devalues the understanding of the government institute in general”. Political force accuses candidate of poor understanding of regional development /
“The Minister of MEPRD must represent not only the issues of regional development and digital transformation, but also the duties of the Minister of the Environment and represent the issues of Latvia’s environment and nature protection. The desire of a young person to become a minister is to be welcomed, but he must be able to distinguish is an opposition party.
It has already been reported that on November 12 this year, the current Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Juris Pūce (AP) decided from the post of Minister resign after being publicly slanderedthat he has not used or seriously asked the party members to arrange for him a parking pass for a deputy of the Riga City Council.
Māris Mičerevskis, a former member of Pūce’s party, stated that Pūce had asked him to provide a parking pass for a deputy of the Riga City Council, but Pūce justified that it was just a joke.
The next day, however, Pūce admitted that it was not a joke, and that he had lied and thus made a mistake, for which he is now ashamed.
“I sincerely apologize for my actions and I sincerely regret it. I have made a mistake in the Riga municipal parking lot, I have really made a very unsuccessful choice. I have misled my colleagues and the Latvian society,” Pūce said when announcing his resignation.
