The coach is amazed at him even during training. In Detroit, they debate whether Crow will follow Hoss

After the exchange from Washington to Detroit, Jakub Vrána shot himself in an unprecedented way. He sparked debates about whether he will score 40 goals in one season. Only seven Czechs have managed this in the history of NHL hockey.

The shoulder operation, for which he had been moribund for months and did not return until March, did not derail him. Starting last year, Crow played 32 games for the Red Wings and scored a respectable 20 goals.

If he fired like this for a long time, he would finish the next basic part with more than 50 goals and he could think of Maurice Richard Trophy for the best gunner of the league.

“He shoots really first class, he can compete with anyone I know,” said Detroit coach Jeff Blashill.

None of the current Red Wings players has a higher average goal per match. The fact that the 26-year-old Czech releases the discs from the hockey stick better than his teammates can also be seen in training. Blashill has been watching this recently.

“He didn’t try to hit the pucks in the gate, but rather took them quickly and placed them in the right corners. And honestly – it was amazing,” the coach said.

Exactly Crow is also aiming in matches. “He is a striker who can score a goal out of nowhere,” teammate Sam Gagner noted.

Despite all this, Crow’s maximum so far in one season is “only” 25 goals.

By another measure, however, he is one of the five best gunners in the NHL. Since coming to this competition, he has scored five to five 1.27 goals per hour of net time in the game. This is a statistic that favors shooters who do not spend a sea of time on the ice and push a lot out of power. For example, David Pastrňák is at number 1.21. Auston Matthews leads the way with a value of 1.67.

The question is whether Crow can get at least a little closer to Matthews even in the absolute number of goals.

However, his performances indicated that he could do it. After all, he already gets questions about whether he believes in a forty-year year. “I don’t want to put pressure on myself. I will go to the next season to do my best every day. Will it be plus or minus 40 goals? Who knows,” the Czech winger reacted.

Coach Blashill has prepared a clearer answer: “If Crow decides to score 40 goals, I have no doubt that he will succeed.”

In the history of the NHL, only seven Czechs shone their 40-goal season – Jaromír Jágr, Milan Hejduk, Patrik Eliáš, Petr Nedvěd, Robert Reichel, Petr Klíma and David Pastrňák. Jágr and Hejduk were the only ones to reach the age of fifty.

They know that scoring 40 goals in one basic part is quite a unique thing, they also know in Detroit, where the Slovak Marián Hossa last managed it 13 years ago.

He helps Crow get more space at Red Wings than he does at Washington. He spends about the same amount of time on powerlifting, but he plays significantly more in a five-on-five game. Overall, his icetime rose from 14:22 to 15:32. In order to go even higher, Crow must be fascinated other than by shooting or skating, specifically by playing without a puck, to which Blashill sometimes has reservations.
