The CNB will offer a 200-crown silver coin for sale from Wednesday. “The commemorative 200-crown coin, stamped from an alloy containing 925 parts of silver and 75 parts of copper, has a diameter of 31 mm and a weight of 13 grams,” said CNB spokeswoman Markéta Fišerová.
The coin features architect Adolf Loos, who would celebrate his 150th birthday on December 10. “Loos is considered to be the founder of the modern concept of architecture and belongs to a narrow group of the most respected pre-war modern architects,” the CNB said.
Loos’ most famous realization is the multifunctional Goldman & Salatsch department store (1910) on Michalské náměstí in Vienna, however, we can also find his work in our territory – Müller’s villa in Prague, and other buildings in his native Brno and its surroundings. It is Müller’s wave that is shown on the obverse.
The coin will be issued in duplicate. In standard quality with a serrated edge, 5,600 pieces are emitted, another 10,700 pieces are embossed in top quality, which is characterized by a highly polished coin field, matte relief and a smooth edge with a frieze.
The selling price of the coin will be 600 and 700 crowns, respectively. “The price is higher than the nominal value, because it takes into account, among other things, the current price of silver, costs associated with production and VAT,” said Fišerová.
Another issue of a commemorative silver coin with a face value of CZK 200 is tentatively planned for September 8, 2021. This coin will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of MUDr. Jan Janský, the discoverer of four basic blood groups.
