The Moroccan Conjoncture Center (CMC) published on Monday its latest monthly issue “Maroc Conjoncture” n°366, which is a special edition entitled “The African Atlantic Façade: Development Challenges and Opportunities”.
This special issue of “Maroc Conjoncture” explores several essential themes, including the global digital divide, inflation and purchasing power, as well as digitalization and socio-economic integration. It also addresses specific topics such as the decline in employment in Morocco in 2023, the strategic importance of Atlantic Africa, and growth prospects for the year 2024. Thus, the CMC considers that in a geopolitical context constantly changing, the African Atlantic coast is emerging as a new horizon of cooperation aimed at promoting peace, stability and prosperity.
Made up of 23 nations and representing almost half of the continent’s population, this region contains considerable economic potential that is still largely untapped.
Morocco, aware of the strategic importance of this area both for continental development and for its international influence, took the lead through the launch of the Atlantic African States Process. This approach aims to intensify cooperation programs between the countries of the region to make this continental space a new zone of great influence on the international political scene. Consequently, the CMC highlights the issues and opportunities linked to the African Atlantic Façade, emphasizing the importance of promoting financial accessibility and digital education to reduce development disparities. Regarding digitalization and socio-economic integration, the CMC explores the role of digitalization in financial inclusion, highlighting the benefits of mobile payments and crowdfunding for rural or remote populations. The special issue further analyzes the economic challenges encountered in recent years, particularly in terms of fluctuations in purchasing power in Morocco, influenced by factors such as the consumer price index and economic growth.
The CMC anticipates positive prospects for the national economy in 2024, suggesting growth in volume of Gross Domestic Product of around 3.8%. This notable development reinforces the direction of the national economy, particularly in the face of the climate of uncertainty which affects the entire planet.
