The cluster in Medicine in Rapallo worsens, the number of infected has already risen to 33

Rapallo – The budget of the cluster discovered in the Medicine Department of the Rapallo hospital. The ten patients remaining in the ward also tested positive for the swab. In addition to them, 8 other operators were infected, a balance that therefore has a total of 22 patients and 11 positive operators. Twelve patients have been transferred to the Covid wards of the Sestri Levante hospital, the other ten will not be moved to avoid creating problems with places. So inside the medical department, in an area that the doctors define as “gray”, they will remain hospitalized patients infected with the virus (almost all asymptomatic). Outside this area, ASL 4 intends to reopen to ordinary admissions. In the meantime, however, the department will remain closed at least until this morning, it was not possible to open yesterday, as forecast by the health care company.

“It would be better to reopen the department but consider it Covid”, observed Libero Gianelli of the CGIL public service: “Managing a department already affected by infections and dividing it into clean and dirty areas is not easy. Eleven operators infected at the moment are another problem ». The space reserved on the upper floor for 76 Covid stations which, for ASL 4, could be activated “in 48 hours” is useless, despite the infections affecting 22 patients in the same hospital. And it always is a staff problem. To open the Covid ward, persistent difficulties emerge in finding staff, in particular nursing. In this sense, the slowdown of the contagion throughout the territory is fortunate, thus allowing the hospital system to breathe more than two weeks ago.

There are 55 infections in Tigullio in the last hours. The cases “slow down”, for the second consecutive day in Chiavari and Rapallo: the centers most affected by the return of the infections to the Riviera are under 200 cases. However, nursing homes are worrying. On the territory, another 10 elderly guests tested positive for Covid, there are over 200 throughout the territory. There is also a slight decrease in hospitalizations, which are 109, 7 of which in intensive care.

At the Rapallo hospital, however, the investigations are not concluded and the fear that the infections may have spread to other departments is high. Checks are underway in Radiology, Intermediate Care and Rehabilitation.
