In my youth I had the pleasure of studying at the University of Mannheim under Prof. Dr Kortzfleisch. He helped develop and start up the first model for how the world develops. I became very interested in this and eventually became his assistant.
They gathered 200 of the best scientists from around the world and started the Club of Rome. They published the first climate report MIT 1 around 1970. In this report it was shown that the temperature of the globe would rise gradually to a crisis in the year 2080. The curves showed that the world’s population would increase to 12 billion. Emissions of e.g. CO₂, methane gases and many other things would lead to heating and complete collapse of the entire globe. The world temperature (the average of the whole globe for a whole year) would increase by several degrees. The refugee flow would amount to several billion, and not as now with a few tens of millions, even that we are not able to handle in a proper way! The population curve in the model would collapse and fall from 12 billion to 1 billion in one year!
This is very bleak and terrible reading. At the time, many university environments criticized the report. They did not have enough faith that humanity would adapt, they claimed, among other things.
The Club of Rome took the consequences of the criticism and met again 2 years later. They reviewed the entire simulation model, all assumptions and connections once more, and added optimism on behalf of “particularly good climate-thinking people and political leadership in the world at all levels”.
They pressed the button again, and the curves came out of the computer: What do you think happened? Think about it before you read on.
Yes, the population grew rapidly as in the first model. The temperature grew almost as fast, heat and heat increased, large landslides – extreme weather – hurricanes – floods – fires and inhuman heat waves increased. What happened to humanity? In the model with positivism, the globe collapsed in the same way as in the first case, only 10 years later, i.e. the model’s result in the year 2090! It’s 70 more years!
There are now 2,800 scientists all over the world working in the UN climate panel, and they publish their gloomy report every year.
Their scenario shows a collapse around the year 2100, but it is partly going faster now than they have predicted, if we do not initiate massive climate action all over the world. That is that each country, each county, each municipality and each individual MUST start today by thinking about how each individual can contribute to reducing climate emissions. This is the only really interesting and important question politically today.
Imagine the captain of a large ship heading for land, causing disaster and the ship being destroyed and sinking. Would he then be allowed to continue, or would he be fired? The politicians of the world have been driving the globe towards total collapse for 50 years already.
We’ve known this for 50 years! Have the politicians been fired or are they being re-elected as if nothing had happened?
So, dear voters: This summer’s heat records are just a modest foretaste!
