The project for the reconstruction of the town spa is estimated at 264 million crowns, which is an estimate of investments associated with the revitalization of the premises, the creation of infrastructure and landscaping. The main goal is to create a modern fusion between sport and culture by creating a social place that will be suitable for meetings, support education and communication of the population.
“Many functions are fragmented around the city and this decentralization is not entirely desired. We remain on the basis of a spa with an extension of the concept, which offers relaxation, culture and sports. stated Žák.

The study of the architectural studio Vrtiška-Žák counts on the preservation of the supporting skeleton of the building and the original pool area. On the contrary, he proposes to demolish the front office building and create a free entrance to the building instead. The building would get a completely new mantle, which would be transparent and let daylight into the building.
Inside the building, sports halls would be created, for example for a dance school, gym or wellness center. From the main pool area, the architects propose to create a concert hall for 300 visitors and space for the city library. Pool elements such as ski jumps would be preserved.

According to Deputy Dinda, it is time for a feasibility study. It will also include discussions with potential operators and negotiations with representatives. The city management has two million crowns ready for the study.
The announcement of the architectural competition and its evaluation in the second half of next year could follow this autumn, said Dinda. The town hall would like to use subsidies to finance the revitalization of the spa.

The city spa with a 50-meter pool ceased to serve the public in 2012. Since then, a number of ideas have emerged on how to use the giant building. One of the proposals was to demolish the building. According to the static assessment, the massive reinforced concrete structure is in very good condition, which was one of the factors for the decision to preserve the building.
However, some citizens of Chomutov still wish to keep the original swimming pool in the spa. This is evidenced by a survey of 1239 people during July and August. Most people voted for the restoration of the pool. According to the town hall, however, the city does not have enough money to operate two city pools.
Chomutov opened the spa to the public on October 1, 1980. It was then one of the most modern swimming areas in northern Bohemia. The construction of the spa was very expensive at that time, it cost 90 million crowns.
The spa then operated for only 32 years, and then the operation ended after the main filter crash. They were replaced by an aqua park in the area of the former barracks in Zadní Vinohrady.
