Tom Thibodeau trusted his second unit and it paid off with a 3rd consecutive victory for the Knicks, obtained 94-85 Wednesday in Detroit, with an Alec Burks in season record mode (34 points) and substitutes who totaled 65 points. RJ Barrett (15 points) is the only holder to reach 10 units and New York dominated Detroit 30-14 in the 4th quarter. The Knicks bench scored 65 points, compared to just 7 for the Pistons. Evan Fournier (ankle) did not play.
Terry Rozier broke his season record (35 points at 13/23 including 5/9 at 3 points) and LaMelo Ball compiled 21 points at 8/13, 12 rebounds and 9 assists in the Hornets’ 116-108 victory at Indianapolis. A 3rd victory in a row for Charlotte, never led after taking control of the match on a 15-3 by going up to +18 in the 1st half against Caris LeVert (27 points) & co.
In Boston Eric Bledsoe ruled in the final quarter with 10 of his 17 points in the period including a 3-point clutch to help the Clippers win 91-82. Marcus Morris was the team’s leading scorer with 23 points plus 10 rebounds and Terance Mann and Luke Kennard added 17 points each. The Clippers recover after 2 defeats. Jaylen Brown finished unsuccessfully 30 points for the Celtics (4/42 including 1/18 in the 4th 3-point), Robert Williams III 16 points and 14 rebounds.
All the victories are good to take in Sacramento so inevitably, it was the party on the floor after the 3-point buzzer for the victory signed Chimezie Metu. Installed in the corner, he assassinated Dallas 95-94. The Mavericks led 94-92 with 33 seconds remaining after a basket from Jalen Brunson (25 points) and two shots from Kristaps Porzingis. Harrison Barnes missed a layup but behind Dallas lost the ball on a 24-second violation. De’Aaron Fox (16 points, 5 assists) drifted towards the basket before coming out in the right corner for Metu: swish, explosion of joy from the Golden 1 Center for this 15th victory.
