Designed by ES-arch · Enrico Scaramellini e Daniel Bonetti · the new climbing gym was created by commission from the small town of Campodolcino, a town with just over 900 inhabitants in Val San Giacomo, on the road that goes from Chiavenna to the Spluga Pass, in an area Sondrio.
What characterizes it is the the simplicity of the system and exquisite attention to detail: everything here refers to the mountain and the wooded landscape that holds it as if, despite the vertical development that makes it appear, it was for camouflage and become part of the landscape system.
Fresh from being named among the 5 Italian architectures for the international Piranesi Award in Piranthe small sculptural building develops from a multi-dimensional plan. The sloping roof, the surfaces and the color make it look like a large rocky spur, ready to clash with the tall trees that surround it.
The convex corner, on the north sidegiving the building an elegant and strong character, almost an impenetrable rock wall; towards sudInstead, the architecture opens up through a large window opening, as if it were a large screen that reflects and shows the changing colors of the sky.
Il colored concretecast in five levels to emphasize the horizontal string courses, certainly a distinctive character of the small architecture. The bottom is completely coplanar, and the upper levels are characterized by plays of geometry, depth, width and vertical movement.
Solid, but dynamic, the monolith plays with the surfaces through the different levels of sandblasting of the concrete, which gives it a sculptural character. Finally, the beauty of the sports building is embellished by the presence of small clear and reflective metal elements in a square shape, which make it shine in the sunlight.
