Mythical Juventus defender and BBC pillar, Andrea Barzagli continues to follow Juventus very closely. During an interview for La Gazzetta dello Sport, he gives his opinion on Juventus’ season and discusses other topics. Check out some of what he said.
Juventus is provisionally in first place in Serie A:
« Juventus’ first place is deserved. The victory at Monza, achieved in this way, is even more important than the Italian derby draw against Inter. The Italian derby was played on an equal footing, increased the notoriety and conviction of the Bianconeri. A bit like saying: we are here and we will fight until the end. But against Monza it was essential to win and Juve did it. And they triumphed in the 94th minute, with this reaction of strength and anger after immediately, the equalizer a few minutes earlier worth a lot. Massimiliano Allegri is doing a good job?
« Allegri is still him, but he brought back the right mentality, that of a real Juve: it was not taken for granted. And the results do the rest, they help the team and the players grow exponentially. It surprises me even more that someone from the outside is still questioning Allegri. Now serenity and unity are necessary and Giuntoli knows it. »
The surprise player of the season?
« McKennie: It looked like he was going to leave, but instead he turns out to be very valuable. But everyone has grown up a little: Bremer has become a certainty, Gatti has a different conviction, Rugani played at excellent levels in the last period. If Vlahovic and Chiesa don’t score, here’s Rabiot, Gatti, Bremer, Cambiaso. »
L’attack de la Juventus :
« Knowing that one way or another you will score is very important: it gives you confidence. Vlahovic was unlucky against Monza, he missed the penalty. Chiesa will score the goals, as will Milik and Kean. And the solidity, despite the 3 goals conceded in the last 3 matches seems to me to be the same as the period during which they conceded none. »
Should we recruit in the January transfer window?
« Something needs to be added given the suspensions of Pogba and Fagioli. But January is a tricky market: either you find a player who increases his level, or you bet on someone who knows how to wait for his moment. Berardi add quality, but Allegri some balances should vary… »
