Violent upheavals continue in SYRIZA just 24 hours before the crucial – as everything seems to be – meeting of the Central Committee. Now the criticism towards Stefanos Kasselakis takes on the characteristics of a civil war, with the unity of the party the next day looking almost impossible.
The Political Secretariat is meeting today without the final proposal for the Statutory changes from the competent Committee, since last night’s meeting did not have time to deal with Kasselaki’s proposals. The Statute Committee will continue today, with the aim of having completed the relevant procedures by tomorrow afternoon, so that the final text can be given to the members of the Central Committee.
Spirtzis to be deleted
The meeting of the Ethics Committee is expected today, in which Christos Spirtzis has been called once again to give explanations. It is recalled that 70 members from all over Greece request its deletion, because – as they claim – it undermines the president and the party.
The background says that the Ethics Committee gave the former minister another chance to apologize, since the penalty of removal is being seriously considered. If this happens, the Central Committee will have to ratify the decision, unless by then Christos Spirtzis leaves… heroically from the party, along with executives who are close to him.
Members of “87” urge Christos Spirtzis to stay at least until the weekend, whatever the decision, so that they can fight the battle of the Central Committee together.
“If I am deleted it will be my honor because I will be deleted because I expressed my opinions which I will not stop expressing” he said today to SKAI and attacked Stefanos Kasselakis:
“It has too many shortcomings, it has a political deficiency. Instead of processing sentences, he has a tendency to communicate about himself and on issues other than politics. Have you ever seen a party president post in the middle of the night accusing the previous president of black money?” he wondered and added:
“He doesn’t have a team to save him from big blunders… Is it my fault if he’s inadequate? The best thing for him to do is to leave without being a candidate.”
“I don’t know if we will have a place”
Commenting on Kasselaki’s moves, Olga Gerovasili said that after the European elections, many moves by the leadership are “movements of rupture and division”. In addition, he added that they aim to “drive out those who disagree with the president’s positions”.
To the question of what will happen if elections are held and Stefanos Kasselakis wins them again, the vice-president of the Parliament replied: “Everyone will measure their position against this. If his agenda is confirmed, here we are […] I don’t know if we will have a place in such a party…”
It is recalled that Olga Gerovasili has invited Stefanos Kasselakis several times to set up polls of his own accord, without the party going through the …suffering of censure. “Let’s go to the members to provide the solution, there is no other way and this is what he proposed himself” he said again today to OREN.
“It makes me allergic”
“I am allergic to every new episode in a thriller of introversion and discredit,” said the MEP, Nikolas Farandouris. “Appeal to members could be a solution. Not the ideal but their involvement could be the escape forward” he said and added:
“I avoid division and therein lies the criticism of friends from the past who have chosen that stance. I believe that the official opposition should enter the government orbit. SYRIZA must lead the democratic forces with self-confidence and not defeatism by exorcising the centre-left” he added speaking to SKAI.
“Tell us what changed”
MP Haris Mamoulakis described the reinstatement of Pavlos Polakis to the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group as “problematic” on the program Morning Overview on the Parliament channel, leaving clear points for Kasselakis’ decision.
He reminded that Pavlos Polakis took Stefanos Kasselakis “ala bracset” last year and invited the Cretan MP to say what has changed in the last months…
“Emits a terrible backlash”
George Karameros also characterizes the return of Pavlos Polakis as “problematic”.
The SYRIZA MP, speaking to Attica, said: “Basically, it was not the right time to delete it. But also the way Pavlos Polakis came back reminds me of the caress we used to pat the one with the ball so he wouldn’t leave. This is an innocent approach to what is happening. It is extremely problematic and emits a terrible backlash, which does not please the citizens.”
“The party is shrinking”
“Mr. Kasselakis should not hide behind marginal majorities. To decide to appeal to the polls… When a president goes to a KO and is questioned by half, he goes to the polls alone,” said Thanasis Theocharopoulos in Parapolitika.
He added that “Kasselakis is creating internal enemies” and claimed that he is “shrinking the party”.
“The hourglass empties”
“The hourglass for SYRIZA is emptying. If a solution is not found in the Central Committee, then there will have to be an appeal to the members of the party” said the MP of Etoloakarnania of SYRIZA, Miltos Zambaras to One.
“Indeed, because the situation for the future of SYRIZA is very difficult, the next days until the Central Committee are absolutely critical. More maturity, sobriety, correct political discourse, a less toxic situation should have prevailed.
