Civil organizations PP MIR, MK “The Left” and MK “Citizens for the Municipality”, which also formed their own group in the Burgas Municipal Council, are ready to support the city’s Budget 2024, but with an important condition – the program “My city, my neighborhood, my street” to cover the small, more remote neighborhoods and constituent settlements in the municipality.
This became clear at a press conference today, in which Zhivko Tabakov, Bencho Benchev, Marieta RohovaDaniel Ivanov, Kostadin Andonov and Krasimir Batilov.
„We have not yet made a final decision whether we will support the budget. We have already held two meetings with the representatives of the municipality, where more than 80 of our proposals were considered. Until now, at the Municipal Council sessions, we have not stopped the reports of the administration, because a large part of our pre-election promises overlap with what has been done so far by the local parliament. More than 39 of our proposals are included in Budget 2024, but the fact that there is a lack of potential for the development of small settlements and constituent settlements in the municipality does not make us confident. We have repeatedly said that the rates of development there are significantly behind those in the more central regions of Burgas. Therefore, we propose to increase the funds under the program “My city, my neighborhood, my street” by BGN 500,000, which will be directed towards improving the infrastructure in the outer neighborhoods“, said municipal councilor Zhivko Tabakov.
He explained that in order for this to happen, the criteria for applying for the program must be changed. According to him, they should change so that they include a more extended format of people who want to join “My city, my neighborhood, my street”. Tabakov expressed his desire at tomorrow’s session, at which the budget will be voted, to receive the assurance from the administration that this will happen.
“Our political attitude is to be tolerant. We have a number of prepared proposals. We will also monitor the transparency of spending the money from the budget” commented Tabakov.
Bencho Benchev also shared what led to the formation of the civil group in the local parliament.
„Our group was formed suddenly. We are civil movements and are not subordinated to party causes. We make decisions democratically, after discussion and together. We will be corrective to the administration, but we will also support good proposals, because we do not have imposed leaders” he said.
