The Ciudad de Oviedo Music Band Begins 31st Season with Five Concerts

The Ciudad de Oviedo Music Band with its chief conductor David Colado Coronas begins its 31st season this Sunday, October 15, with five concerts, in the main hall of the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo, which will take place as usual on Sundays at 7:00 p.m.: 00 a.m. with free entry until capacity is reached. The scheduled dates will be October 15 and 29, November 12 and 26 and December 17.

“The Music Band plays a very important role in the cultural programming of the city, its presence in the musical programming of the Municipal Culture Foundation is an asset that enriches it,” says councilor David Álvarez, president of the Municipal Foundation of Culture. Culture.
The first of the concerts, October 15 will be dedicated to zarzuela and will feature the collaboration of the Capilla Polifónica Ciudad Oviedo choir, the titular choir of the Zarzuela season of the Teatro Campoamor. This collaboration that had been developing for many years was suspended with the pandemic and will be resumed in 2023 to perform a repertoire of well-known works from our zarzuela heritage with titles such as La Gran Vía, El Barberillo de Lavapiés, La Dolores, El Caserío or La Verbena de la Paloma among others. This concert will also feature an absolute premiere of a work by the great choral composer Julio Domínguez, whose Cantigas Suite will be played for the first time in concert.
The second of the concerts, October 29 It will be developed by a guest conductor and one of the great masters in the band scene of our country, the Valencian maestro Vicente Soler, chief conductor of the Badajoz Municipal Band, who presents us with a repertoire of Spanish music and ballet with works by authors such as Oscar Navarro and Ferrer Ferrán who will undoubtedly be liked by our appreciated audience.
The third concert, November 12 It has the participation of one of the soloists as a wind instrumentalist of greatest international prestige. Andreas Prittwitz will be Aeolus, the King of the Winds in a spectacular and wonderful educational concert aimed at families that he has already performed with large and important orchestras throughout Spain, such as the National Orchestra of Spain, the Symphony Orchestra of RTVE, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, etc. It will be a show where theater and music are mixed and, with careful staging, introduces the viewer to the world of woodwind, metal and percussion instruments.
The fourth concert, November 26, will feature the traditional collaboration of previous years of the Band of the “Eduardo Martínez Torner” CONSMUPA Higher Conservatory of Music. On this occasion, a highly demanding repertoire is proposed with works such as The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky and Symphony No. 2 “The Big Apple” (New York Symphony) by Johan de Meij, thus betting and making our public known the original repertoire for marching band that is developed at the highest performing level throughout the world.
The last special Christmas concert, December 17 It is intended for jazz music and will feature the group Sinatra and Jobim Project, a group that performs covers and versions of two great artists such as Frank Sinatra and Carlos Jobim. A concert with a repertoire that includes spectacular arrangements of songs like Fly me to the Moon, I’ve got you under my
skin, My Way or the Girl from Ipanema performed jointly by the BMCO and the group Sinatra and Jobim Project
“This series of concerts, with diverse programs that combine different styles, show the versatility and quality of our Band, attractive programs that will be liked by a very wide spectrum of audiences, so I invite you to come and discover the who have not yet done so, to our training and to the wonderful world of banda music,” indicates the municipal head of Culture.
