Since the start of the health crisis, the protocol has been a living subject in the school environment. Anxious to adapt to the protean impacts of a mutant virus, the National Education recently changed the situation. It now imposes a class closure from three Covid cases detected in the same week. Below this gauge, the young classmates of the positive student must undergo a laboratory screening (PCR or antigen test) before returning to school.

The situation in Thionville schools
It turns out to be rather “good” in view of the epidemic outbreak observed recently. Last week, three classes in Thionville were hit with a closure measure. In detail, two classes from the Robert-Desnos elementary school in Veymerange and one class from the nursery section of the Poincaré school. “We are in the average of recent weeks”, observes Emmanuel Bertin, municipal assistant (in particular) in charge of school affairs. Compared to the number of students (3,500) and classes (98) in Thionville, the incidence of the coronavirus therefore seems rather low: “This does not represent more than 3% of schoolchildren in the city, calculates the elected official. So yes, compared to the departmental situation, we are for the moment rather spared. It should be noted that the third campaign of preventive saliva tests started this Monday, December 6 in the schools of the district. The operation will end on January 13.

Municipal action
If the embrace of the virus does not prove to be suffocating in Thionville, it is in part because of the protocol put in place by the municipality. The City, in charge of after-school care, has modeled its organization on that of schools: “Children in the same class stay together, especially during meals. The idea is to limit the mixing to break the chains of contamination, ”says Véronique Brion, director of school affairs.
Another factor likely to reduce the influence of the Covid: the special emphasis placed on cleaning operations: “We added an intervention during the meridian break, reveals Emmanuel Bertin. This consists of cleaning direct contact elements such as switches, door handles and desks ”. Finally, the City is planning an additional measure by soon equipping all classrooms and extracurricular spaces with a CO2 sensor. This equipment makes it possible to measure the saturation of the air “and to indicate to the teacher the ideal moment to open the windows. »Thionville will be the first local authority in the department to acquire such equipment for an investment of around € 30,000. These days, the expense does not seem unnecessary …
