City of Zurich commercial enterprises that had to temporarily close their business due to the Corona measures or generated significantly less sales than in previous years, as the city council announced on Thursday, could claim the support.
With the three-thirds model, the city created an incentive for landlords of commercial premises to accommodate their tenants.
If the landlord and tenant agreed that only a third of the rent would be due for at least one month between December 2021 and April 2021, the city would pay the second third of the rent, a maximum of 8,333 francs per month’s rent. The landlord had to take over the last third.
Credit almost used up
The city has provided a loan of CHF 20 million for this. Applications amounting to 16.3 million have already been approved, according to the announcement. Applications for 1.4 million are still being examined.
Only 40 applications have been rejected so far. Around a third of the total of 2,000 requests came from the catering and retail sectors, the remaining third from various other sectors.
