“The city of young readers” returns to Florence: a dive into the universe of books for children, teenagers, teenagers and young adults

Three days of animated readings, writing and illustration workshops, live painting, shows, talks and meetings all dedicated to the universe of literature for children, teenagers, teenagers and young adults in the company of some of the most interesting authors, designers, cartoonists and publishers on the Italian and international scene. Return to Florence The city of young readers: from 11 to 13 April the second edition of the festival for a dive into the world of books for ages 0 and up which was born as a spin-off of La città dei readers, a cultural project of the CR Firenze Foundation and the Wimbledon APS Association with the direction of Gabriele Ametrano.

Between the villa and the Bardini garden, a journey through graphic works, best-selling series, editorial cases, illustrated books, educational projects, fables and stories edited by the Andersen Prize booksellers Farollo and Falpalà, with a full program of workshops designed to make young readers protagonists alongside the great pens and pencils of the sector, as well as moments aimed at adult audiences to discover how the literature we call “for children” is actually capable of engaging and excite readers of all ages.

Among the guests are leading names on the contemporary scene: from the celebrated creative duo composed of the Parisian author Nadine Brun-Cosme and by the Breton illustrator Olivier Tallec – together authors of the world best seller Wolf & Cub – who will present the new register Duck, rabbit and big bear (Edizioni Clichy), to the writer and illustrator Barbara Cantini, creator of the very successful character of deadwith 8 books published by Mondadori Ragazzi and over 100,000 copies sold in Italy.

And then the award-winning Swiss author Davide Calì, already contributor for Linus, with a 20-year career and 200 titles published and translated almost all over the world; the illustrators Agnes Innocent – Andersen Award for best comic book in 2021 and reality collaborator including Disney e Warner – e Marianna Balducci – which in 2018 at the Andersen was awarded both the Super Prize and the victory in the 0-6 years category –; Eva Montanari, author and illustrator translated and published in over 15 countries, from Japan to the United States, from Brazil to Finland; the designer and illustrator Alberto Lotgià art director per Condé Nast; Brian Freschicomic talent winner of the Boscarato Prize for screenwriting and collaborator of the major publishing houses in Italy; Elena Trioloillustrator with over 23K followers on Instagram with clients including Gucci, Buitoni and Smemoranda.

Worth mentioning is the meeting with the children’s literature expert Carla Ghisalberti aimed at teachers, parents, librarians, educators and all those interested in exploring the theme of the illustrated book as a ground for sharing and reflection on the great issues of the world and not just the prerogative of younger readers (13/04); in the morning in the company of Dynowisha fantastic creature that animates the pages of books by Paola Myriam Visconti (Giunti Editore) and thanks to the Foundation created by the author and the artist Antonio Signorini develops cultural projects aimed at the world of children all over the world (13/04); the show Until the last story of and with Rodrigo MorgantiItaly’s first clown doctor and artistic director of the Doctor Smile Foundation, a non-profit organization that every year takes care of over 30 thousand children hospitalized in 33 pediatric departments (13/04). And then live readings of the most loved books of recent years, creative writing and illustration workshops, moments for adults and children together and copy signing.
