The city of Wetzikon is involved in replacing the railway bridge

That’s what it’s about

The SBB is planning to replace the railway bridge over Usterstrasse because the steel bridge is in a damaged structural condition. In addition, the Canton of Zurich is planning to repair and widen Usterstrasse for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the Tödistrasse to Weststrasse section, with an expected completion date of 2028.

Based on these general conditions and extensive clarifications, the SBB and the Canton of Zurich have agreed to replace the existing bridge with a new building.

The SBB project essentially involves replacing the existing railway bridge over Usterstrasse with a new, modern bridge. The planned widening of Usterstrasse requires a larger span of the bridge (new 25.90 m). In the area of the existing building, Usterstrasse is expected to be significantly widened in 2028. There are bicycle lanes on both sides and a central island. The central island will improve the safety of crossing pedestrian and bicycle traffic, especially from the municipal bicycle route along the railway embankment.

The load-bearing safety and usability of the entire bridge structure should be guaranteed for a service life of 100 years.
