City of Nîmes representatives are invited to wear the orange ribbon throughout the week. The aim is to raise the attention of employees about the issue of violence against women and to encourage communication with the public. The third session on the prevention of gender and sexual violence, aimed at village representatives, is also on the program.
The family space, far from being the protected private space it should be, can become an area where, when violence is present, women and their children are particularly exposed. The National Federation of Women’s Solidarity (FNSF) estimated in 2021 that the number of children affected by domestic violence was 4 million. For children whose mother is a victim of domestic violence, the risk is 6 to 15 times higher to be the direct target of this violence themselves and to reproduce violence, the only communication model they know.
Against this view, the city moved, for the second year in a row, and launched “Stop the violence”. During extracurricular time, more than 150 Nîmes students, from around fifteen schools, were invited to create an educational and artistic communication tool, displaying the orange ribbon as well as emergency numbers dedicated to family violence. After the various debates, which announce the jury prize, the art prize but also the “City Agents” prize, the paintings and works are presented in the reception halls of the schools.
