The city of Montluçon (Allier) buys the dilapidated building on rue de la Fontaine

“After years of effort, we are finally able to regain control of this property”, underlined the mayor of Montluçon, Frédéric Laporte, when examining the deliberation concerning the purchase by the city of this building. located at 23, rue de la Fontaine.

Several danger orders and a major fire

It must be said that the recent history of this building in the medieval city has been eventful. Still partly inhabited but already in poor condition at the time of its acquisition in 2006 (175,000 euros) by a company then placed in compulsory liquidation in 2015, this building located on a plot of 376 square meters has continued to deteriorate.

As early as 2010, the city had initiated two imminent danger procedures, followed in early 2011 by a new one due to the fall of roofing elements on the public domain. All without the owner company respecting its obligations to carry out the work ordered before its placement in liquidation.

The building finally suffered a major fire in March 2016 which almost completely destroyed it. So much so that today, despite an intervention by the city “intended to secure the large walls”, the building presents “a proven risk of collapse […]which could eventually lead to major structural problems and a real degradation of the built block”, details the deliberation.

Amount of the transaction: 5,500 euros

This is what decided the city to buy the plot for the sum of 5,500 euros including costs “rather than having to incur costs in vain on a building that does not belong to it”. A modest sum in view of the first discussions, in 2016, during which the agent-liquidator had formulated a request for a price of 80,000 euros.

Greening?

For the rest, the mayor evoked, without going into details, a reflection around a project “of greening and urban development on which we will come back”.
