Melsungen has a budget volume of 46 million euros: The Old Casino is the major project for the coming year.
Melsungen – It should be the last budget that Markus Boucsein brings in as Melsungen’s mayor. Due to illness, that didn’t work on Tuesday evening. Instead, First City Councilor Ulrike Hund presented the numbers. They are impressive – even in a district-wide comparison.
Melsungen’s budget has a volume of 46 million euros and is balanced. The bottom line is a small increase of 360,000 euros. One million euros has already flowed into the investment program.
The budgetary discipline of recent years has paid off. Melsungen’s debts have fallen from their peak in 2015 from more than 35 million euros to around 9 million euros. At the same time, the reserve – also known as profit carried forward in the new budget law – has grown to 20 million euros. This already includes the five million euros that the city has set aside for the construction of the health center.
Investments amounting to 6.75 million euros are planned for the coming financial year. 2.5 million euros come from the federal and state governments, two million are financed through loans, one million euros is a budget surplus and the rest comes from the city’s reserves. These are some of the largest items at a glance:
Road construction: The city is spending 500,000 euros on the renovation of the ancillary facilities on the state road from Carl-Braun-Straße to Kirchhof.
Fire department: The municipal fire department receives a special, new vehicle. A hazardous goods equipment trolley was purchased for 650,000 euros. The vehicle contains devices for measuring and detecting, collecting, decanting and sealing dangerous goods and substances.
Parking garage: The city is covering part of the costs for the new parking garage at Sand. In 2025, 500,000 euros will be due as a partial installment.
Old Casino: In the coming years the town hall – the old casino – will be rebuilt. The building, which dates back to 1838, is to be partially restored to its old form and modernized at the same time. For example, it includes air conditioning and will be barrier-free. 2.3 million euros will be available for this next year.
Community houses: In the coming years, the village community centers in Hülsenfurth and Obermelsungen will also be renovated. The costs amount to around 1.7 million euros. There is 600,000 euros in the budget for 2025. There is now even sports funding for the DGH in Obermelsungen, as the TSV will also use the DGH.
Terror protection: The city buys concrete claws for 150,000 euros, which are used, for example, at events. So far these have been rented.
Pay: The income tax is 10.7 million euros. The income from trade tax was 16.4 million euros. Personnel costs amount to 13.7 million euros. The assessment rate for property tax B is to be reduced from 450 to 405 percent. (Damai D. Dewert)
