IN BRIEF – The City of Grenoble is launching its new online platform “Vegetalize your city! », May 3, 2021. The goal? Allow residents to contribute to the greening of Grenoble, in public space but also in private spaces.

The interface, accessible from May 3, brings together, amplifies and enhances existing citizen greening systems. And offers residents new possibilities.
On a single interface, the people of Grenoble will be able to submit a request to create a green space in the public space or join an existing gardening space. They will also have the possibility of obtaining free of charge one or more young trees to plant on their land. Or to benefit from advice and resources for a successful revegetation project.
Plant your city! has an annual budget of 160,000 euros. About what set up the projects submitted on the platform and carry out the necessary work.

Greening the city is more necessary than ever “Facing the challenge of climate change”, affirms Éric Piolle. The elected representative from Grenoble reminds us that planting in an urban environment makes it possible to avoid heat islands.
Trees regulate temperatures in hot weather thanks to their foliage and shade, while vegetated soils, by retaining water, naturally cool the ambient air. Unlike concrete, which absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night. The plant “Also allows better breathing, an improvement of the living environment and well-being”, according to Thierry Chastagner, municipal councilor responsible for revegetation.
“Make your city green!” “: A device also valid for private spaces
With this new platform, the goal is to “To reach the inhabitants and actors of the city”, explains Thierry Chastagner. The application form for the creation of gardening space in public spaces will be open from May 3 to June 31, 2021.

Individuals are also affected by the device. In fact, the City plans to distribute 400 young trees to businesses, condominiums and individuals upon request, on a “first come, first served” basis. The application form will, this time, be open until September 31.
The plant your city platform! will also offer practical sheets on gardening and ecological management of green spaces. Individuals with a garden will also be able to benefit from personalized support and expertise provided by the City. Especially with regard to large-scale projects, such as the demineralization of a courtyard or the revegetation of a facade.
