The city of Brussels has already stepped up the fight for a traffic-safe city according to the STOP principle this year by checking a total of 13,302,741 vehicles for speed.

Of the more than 13 million vehicles checked, 32,076 drivers received a police report for exceeding the speed limit. In May, new municipal regulations were introduced to tackle the phenomenon of street racers. The Brussels local police can now immediately confiscate cars caught in the act and fine drivers. Within this framework, some 40 vehicles have already been seized administratively and about 15 by law enforcement.
“We call on citizens to contact the emergency number 101 when they witness a dangerous situation such as street races. Because anyone who thinks that Brussels is a race course will be heavily fined, ”assures Chief of Police Goovaerts.
Road redevelopment
Meanwhile, the bikers of the police zone continue to work for the vulnerable road users. In 2020, they were already able to report 8,191 vehicles for parking on sidewalks, cycle paths or crosswalks. They also issued 2,845 GAS fines for non-compliance with the rules in a pedestrian or residential area.
In addition to the police section, the city of Brussels continues to invest in the redesign of the roadways, for example by installing concrete blocks, in order to increase road safety.
