Patrice Bergeron’s contract may end at the end of the season, the Quebecer does not see himself wearing any other uniform in his career.
This is what he said during an interview with Jean-Charles Lajoie on Monday.
“When I blew out my 36 candles this summer, I thought about that. I have now spent half of my life in Boston. It is truly an honor for me to represent the Bruins and to be in the organization. The city of Boston has a special place in my heart. They are the ones who drew me up and trusted me in my early years. I think I can give them that back by wanting to stay and finish my career here in Boston. ”
If Bergeron does not want to play for any training other than the Bruins, he still has not decided if he wants to continue his career beyond the current season.
“I haven’t thought about that yet. I really want to focus on the season and enjoy the moment. We want to create something and see where it can bring us. We can then reconsider things in the summer. I’ll see how I feel and how my family feels, but the passion is still there. ”
Several players, who played important roles in Boston, have left in recent years such as Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Tuukka Rask. The Quebecer found it sad to lose friends, but he is focused on helping new ones integrate.
“It’s always unfortunate when players leave, but we have several new ones coming. A guy like Nick Foligno is combative on the ice and he brings a lot of leadership. Lots of players have just joined and we get to know them and develop links with them. “
The Bruins captain felt lucky to have the chance to play his sport in the midst of the pandemic last year, but he is very happy that things have returned a little more to normal.
“It’s going to be special to find the rivalries again. To have the chance to play against the Canadiens is always special. I can’t wait to get back to the divisions, the travel and the routine we had before the pandemic. It will do good. Whether the famous experts classify us in the playoffs or not, we should not worry about it. We have to put ourselves in a bubble and trust each other as a team. ”
