The city of Baracoa, located in the province of Guantánamo, woke up this Tuesday, April 30, being hit by heavy rains that have caused many rivers to swell throughout the region, which has caused a series of flash floods.
According to local media Primate Visionthe flooding of all the rivers in that eastern town is reported, so Mariana Grajales and Primero de Abril streets, in the Barrio de la Laguna, corner of Limbano Sánchez and Rubert López, ended up under water.
The official reporter Pablo Gomero Machado indicated that the torrential rains this Tuesday have caused concern among the residents of the La Playa neighborhood, all because of the “poor drainage and the high volumes of water that in two hours have filled the glass and left us with damage, humidity and dripping.
Similarly, communicator Henry Matos Galano used his social networks to share several shocking images that show the flooding of the Joa River, which has left several neighborhoods in the area cut off.
“At this time, this is how the JOA RIVER bed is with an immense flood, leaving access to part of our constituency cut off,” he wrote on Facebook.
Heavy rains began to fall in the last hours of Monday, with the Forecast Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) reporting that rain had been reported in points of the northern, central and eastern coast of the Island.
Experts also warned that, for this Tuesday, the probability of rain in the interior and south of the country would increase, so the population should take the corresponding measures.
“It was to be expected, with this constant rain… and IT DOESN’T STOP!”; “It rained a lot during the early morning, and it is still raining” and “Please, discipline to avoid regrettable losses,” were some of the comments made by the population regarding these floods.
The Municipal Assembly of Popular Power of Baracoa also used its social networks to share images of the flooded streets, while the authorities do everything possible to help those people who were affected by the growth of the Miel River.
