“Nothing will prevent Christmas”, launches Jérôme Baloge the mayor of Niort. “There will be light in the city, very beautiful decorations”. Four trees have been installed in the city center, others will be in the Pontreau and Tour Chabot neighborhoods, decorated by the inhabitants.
The Christmas market should be held with 39 exhibitors, craftsmen and producers, place du Donjon from December 11 to 24. Discussions are still underway with the prefecture on the terms of the organization: gauge? flow direction ? Discussions also on whether the toboggan run and the ice rink can be installed.
On the other hand, no large gathering and therefore no wanderings. About thirty company shows are canceled.“We will see if we can authorize a few orchestras to put on some entertainment”, says Jérôme Baloge.
Projections on the Dungeon with children’s drawings
The traditional ones projections on the Dungeon are back this year with a show called “Rêves de lumière”. It will alternate with projections of drawings made by children from Niort schools. 600 were selected. These screenings will take place December 5 to January 3, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., to respect the curfew which must be introduced from December 15. There will be an exception for the evenings of December 24 and 31.
Also return of automates installed rue Victor Hugo. As for Santa Claus, will he make an appearance? The City hopes so, but here too it is in discussion with the prefecture. “The mayor and the prefect have agreed that the police will not ask him for a certificate”, smiles Jérôme Baloge.
A heart of light for caregivers
Like 30 other cities in France, Niort will install a heart of light on the Place des Halles, from December 21 to January 3 “to say thank you to the medical profession and to all those who have worked and are still working to fight against the virus”.
