Street vendors plan Rencana Malioboro suing tourists, ladies and gentlemen, who went viral because of the price of catfish pecel, received a response from the Yogyakarta City Government. Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi said he had asked the Malioboro community to refrain from doing so.
“I have spoken with the association and the Malioboro community, no one will file a lawsuit. This means that if someone wants to sue, it is not the action of the community and the association,” said Heroe in a written statement, Friday (28/5/2021).
He explained that he had tried to communicate with the head of the Malioboro Night Traders Association (PPLM) Sukidi. But, not getting results.
“I ask that there is no need to question the uploader of the catfish pecel case. Because tourists don’t know it’s the Malioboro area or the Representatives. They know they are in the Malioboro area,” he explained.
Although, traders in Malioboro have tried to maintain their image by providing a price list up front, Heroe asked that there is no need to enlarge the problem. “In the end, it was revealed that it was not the traders on Malioboro Street who gave unreasonable prices, on Representative Street it was an introspection material,” he asked.
He said this case should be an introspection to improve services to tourists. Even some things can provide information that must be corrected.
“All parties must introspect. The example of selling catfish pecel, just given the pecel is already a trap. So for information, we will invite traders to sell it in one package. The catfish pecel is complete with rice, fresh vegetables and chili sauce. But still can offer, if you add catfish, fresh vegetables, chili sauce, rice, they will be given their own price,” he suggested.
Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) DI Yogyakarta Deddy Eryono Pranowo asked all tourism actors to be wiser. The pandemic conditions have made it difficult for tourism actors to survive.
“But that doesn’t mean ‘nuthuk’ prices. Tourists are guests. In accordance with Javanese philosophy, they must be respected. That’s the key to serving tourists,” suggested Deddy.
He hopes that, in the current pandemic conditions, all parties can equally generate tourism in DIY. The key is together to provide the best service for tourists.
“It’s a pandemic condition, don’t let tourists be afraid of Yogyakarta. They are already worried about Covid-19. We as tourism actors should be able to hide these tourists,” he said.
