The City Council will create two rings within the Low Emissions Zone that must be implemented before 2023 | Radio Alicante | Present

Alicante will implement a Low Emissions Zone before the end of 2023. This has been agreed by the bipartisan in the Local Government Board where it has approved the document to adhere to the aid program of the Ministry of Transport and Mobility.

Specifically, two sustainable rings will be implanted. One in the traditional center of 54 hectares, between Alfonso El Sabio, Doctor Gadea and Federico Soto avenues. And another ring around the entire Gran Vía, affecting 750 hectares. In both the first and second rings, the limitation will be carried out progressively, establishing a calendar of restrictions linked to polluting elements.

This program will include 14 projects valued at more than 37 million euros, of which it is expected to receive the maximum possible grant, that is, about 29.5 million euros. Among the projects, points out municipal spokesman Antonio Manresa, are the pedestrianization of the traditional center, the restructuring of roads and access control, as well as the conversion to electric vehicles of the municipal fleet and urban transport buses.

The actions, by type, that are intended to be financed are:

  • Implementation of the Low Emission Zone in Alicante, Gran Vía ring, for an estimated amount of 3,000,000 euros, with 2,700,000 euros eligible.
  • Regulation and access control Traditional center, Rambla de Méndez Núñez and Casco Antiguo, for an estimated amount of 1,500,000 euros, with 1,350,000 euros eligible.
  • Conditioning of Avenida de Aguilera for the implementation of an exclusive bus lane, for an estimated amount of 600,000 euros, with 540,000 euros eligible.
  • Construction project for the pedestrianization of the Constitución-Bailén-Bilbao Axis, for an estimated amount of 1,949,126 euros, with 1,754,213 euros eligible.
  • Pedestrian access to the esplanade through Bilbao and Rambla streets, for an estimated amount of 2,500,000 euros, with 2,250,000 euros eligible.
  • Pedestrianization of the Plaza Nueva and surroundings (Navas and Susana Llaneras streets), for an estimated amount of € 593,631, with 534,268 euros eligible.
  • Lane restrictions on Ramón y Cajal avenue, for an estimated amount of 1,487,603.31 euros, with 1,338,843 euros eligible.
  • Traffic restriction and access control on Avenida Doctor Gadea, Paseo Soto and Avenida General Marvá, for an estimated amount of 4,000,000 euros, with 3,600,000 euros eligible.
  • Traffic restriction of the Paseo de los Mártires de la Libertad, for an estimated amount of 2,500,000 euros, with 2,250,000 euros eligible.
  • Regulation of the DUM in the area of ​​low emissions in the Gran Vía Ring, for an estimated amount of 250,000 euros, with 2,250,000 euros eligible.
  • Acquisition of electric vehicles for Public Transport, for an estimated amount of 11,960,000 euros, with 4,600,000 euros eligible.
  • Installation of electric bus recharging systems in municipal garages, for an estimated amount of 3,152,279 euros, with 2,837,051 euros eligible.
  • Digitization of Public Transport with payment and SAE linked to “Alicante moves”, for an estimated amount of 3,551,754 euros, with 3,196,579 euros eligible.
  • Monitoring and simulation of multimodal transport in the center of Alicante with the MaaS app, for an estimated amount of 300,000 euros, with 270,000 euros eligible.

On the other hand, the Governing Board has also given the green light to the reform of the Vicente Crespo de Babel sports center and the construction of a new covered pavilion in Tómbola. It has put out to tender the drafting of both projects for 366,000 euros.

In addition, the City Council has announced new COVID grants for one million euros for companies, freelancers, professionals and mutualists in the traditional festivals and leisure sectors. Specifically, 515,000 and 475,000 euros respectively.
