The City Council will appreciate the work of the toilets by awarding them the San Sebastián flag | Radio San Sebastian

The San Sebastián City Council will deliver a personalized city flag to Hospital Donostia, as a token of “gratitude” and “tribute” to all the health personnel who during the last ten months “have fought on the front line” against the coronavirus.

As reported this Monday by the local institution in a statement, the council has thus decided to maintain the initiative that it launched last year to pay tribute to the Unión Artesana society on the occasion of its 150th anniversary.

The mayor, Eneko Goia, has stressed that the city’s banner constitutes “a link” between Donostiarras, for which he has considered that, despite the fact that this year there will be no drum parades or festive events due to the pandemic, the delivery to the professionals of the Donostia University Hospital it will be “one of the emotional moments” that will be experienced around the holiday of January 20, although it has not specified when it will become effective.

It will therefore be the second time that the City Council gives away the personalized flag of the city on the occasion of the celebration of the patronal feast, a gesture that in principle it had devised to honor a society or company every year but that, due to the crisis of the covid-19, has decided to grant this time to the workers of the Donostia hospital complex.

As for the flag that usually flies for 24 hours in the Plaza de la Constitución, on one of the balconies of the old town hall, Goia will maintain the tradition but will adapt it to health security measures, so instead of hoisting it at 00:00 on the 20th, he will hoist it “throughout the day tomorrow” before 22:00 on the 19th, in “a symbolic act” and “without an audience.”
