The City Council opens an “ideas contest” to provide a solution to the Central Market area | Radio Elche

The members of the municipal government They have met this morning to give an account for the start of the new political course marked by the Coronavirus pandemic. He Mayor of Elche, Carlos González, has explained that in this first four-month period they will seek to channel important projects to raise the future of the historic and commercial center.

Once the work of pedestrianization of the Corredora and Plaza de Baix that the mayor has described as the first major commercial area of ​​the center, the government has proposed opening an “ideas contest” so that experts can make proposals for the area of ​​the Square of Flowers and Fruit where the old building of the Central Market is located.

Carlos González has indicated that the projects that are proposed must value this commercial area that has the Arab Baths and the two Civil War refuges. The mayor has not wanted to specify if the Market building could be part of this project because, he says, it depends on the proposals made in the contest.

In this way, the Provisional Market located on Avenida del País Valenciano, it would become the definitive one, conditioning the environment and the structure. Carlos González has indicated that it is the alternative that has been put on the table to pleasures, with a parking in José María Buck.

In this regard, Compromís spokesperson and government partner, Esther Díez, has pointed out the need to think about the future of this space to favor the economic reactivation of the area.
