The Councilor for Sports of the City Council of Oviedo, Concepcion Mendez, delivered this Monday to the president of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Association, Pilar Fernandez, from the money collected during the celebration of the last San Silvestre Oviedo, an amount that has risen to 18.702 euros.
The mayor of Oviedo highlighted during the act that “once again Oviedo closed the year with a popular race and once again made clear the solidarity character of those who participated in the San Silvestre”. ConceptionMendez He recalled that “every year there is a commitment to an entity”, and wanted to highlight that “on this occasion this collaboration was perhaps more important, since it is about raising funds for a social scourge such as metastatic breast cancer”.
For her part, the president of the association, Pilar Fernandez, wanted to thank the Oviedo City Council for its collaboration, and stated that “it is essential that the research advances, so this money is essential support”: Fernandez He also highlighted that on the day of San Silvestre they did not run alone “since patients and relatives were very aware of the race not only from here, but from other countries”. Pilar Fernandez has ended by launching an awareness message for society, because “it is very important to stop this scourge”, remembering that “2020 has been a black year, with more than 6,000 deaths, and we believe that 2021 will be worse figures, so together we must be able to stop it”. A disease that remains the leading cause of death among women between the ages of 35 and 50.
Almost 6,000 people took part in the last San Silvestre ovetense in all categories, both in person and virtually. A race, which by the way, was won by the Moroccan living in Spain, Moha Bakkali who, in the end, scored a double after also winning the San Silvestre de Gijón.
