The La Línea de la Concepción City Council has carried out an analysis of the demonstration held on October 25, 2024, in which the consequences and next steps were addressed to make visible the impact of a possible Brexit Agreement, a topic considered one of the main current problems of the municipality. In this context, it has been agreed to hold new meetings to evaluate the progress related to this situation.
The meeting was chaired by the mayor of La Línea de la Concepción, Juan Franco, who was accompanied by the vice president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities, Manuel Abellán. The president of the Transborder Group, Darren Cerisola, also participated in the meeting; George Dyke, representing the Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce, and Juan Carmona de Cózar, who held the position of mayor of La Línea when the border opened.
During the session, the follow-up and media impact generated by the October 25 protest was highlighted, and the implications that a Brexit Agreement could have for the city were discussed. In this sense, the need to apply specific measures that could mitigate the impact that said agreement could represent for the inhabitants of the municipality was discussed.
The mayor of La Línea, Juan Franco, described the meeting as “very productive” and confirmed that there is the possibility of organizing new meetings before the end of November 2024, with the aim of following up on the issues discussed and continuing to advance in the search for solutions to the possible consequences of the Brexit Agreement.
