The Santander City Council has thanked the citizens for their response to the call made by the Blood Bank and the Brotherhood of Blood Donors of Cantabria to go and donate blood at the point installed this Tuesday in the reception hall of the Town Hall.
The Councilor for Health, Noemí Méndez; and Isidro Tapia, from the Blood Bank, have visited the collection, in which a hundred people are expected to participate, in the morning and afternoon, after requesting an appointment by calling 640 244 120, the Consistory has indicated in a note of press.
The Santander City Council regularly collaborates with the Banco de Santander and the Brotherhood of Donors and will soon sign an agreement to make places such as municipal palaces or civic centers available to them with the aim of bringing donation points closer to all residents.
“We want to convey our sincere thanks to all the people who will pass by the City Council throughout the day to donate, a gesture that saves lives and that at this time is key for many people and to guarantee the proper functioning of the health system”, Méndez has assured, who has remarked that donating is “safe” and for this the necessary sanitary measures have been established.
The municipal official has emphasized that the reserves “remain low” for groups A-, A+, 0- and 0+, mainly due to the “impact” of the sixth wave of the Covid pandemic, for which there is ” great demand” for blood in hospitals and health centers.
Thus, he clarified that people who have recently had COVID-19 can donate “normally”, and recalled that, in addition to blood, plasma is “very necessary” in the current context of the pandemic for the preparation of medicines. .
