The Citizens Eliminated Through Penalty Shootout

London

Manchester City must be eliminated from English League Cup after losing 3-5 on penalties from West Ham United. The two teams drew 0-0 throughout the 90 minutes.

West Ham host Manchester City at the Olympic Stadium, London, in the fourth round of the English League Cup, Thursday (28/10/2021) early morning WIB. The match was interesting in the early minutes with both teams looking open.

The hosts threatened first from an effort from outside the Mark Noble penalty box. Zack Steffen is still well muffled the West Ham captain’s attempt.

Man City turn to have a chance in the 25th minute. Cole Palmer fired horizontally in the penalty box after receiving a ball from Riyad Mahrez. Alphonse Areola still manages to block Palmer’s shot with his feet

Entering the middle of the first half, Man City began to dominate. However, West Ham’s defense appeared disciplined to stem the attacks of Pep Guardiola’s troops.

The score remained 0-0 until the first half was complete.

After the break, Areola made two saves to keep West Ham from conceding. In the 57th minute, he was able to stem Raheem Sterling’s shot which pierced from the right side.

Two minutes later, the French goalkeeper was back in action. He brilliantly flew away from John Stones’ header which grabbed a corner kick.

The Citizens locked West Ham’s defense in the remaining second half of the match. However, their efforts to score the winning goal were fruitless until the game ended.

This meant that the match had to be settled in the penalty shootout after the position remained 0-0 for 90 minutes.

West Ham’s first kicker, Marck Noble did a great job. He was able to outwit Zack Steffen.

Phil Foden, who tried to equalize the numbers as Man City’s early kicker, actually failed to score from the white point. His shot went wide of Areola’s goal.

Jarred Bowen took West Ham away 2-0. His penalty shot into the right corner of the goal could not be dammed by Steffen who could actually read the direction of the ball.

Joao Cancelo opened Man City’s hopes when his execution broke into West Ham’s goal. The score 2-1 is still for The Hammer’s advantage.

Craig Dawson continued the West Ham kicking action well. He outwit Steffen to bring West Ham ahead 3-1.

Gabriel Jesus was able to ward off a 3-2 advantage thanks to his shot which was blocked by Areola. West Ham back away after Aaron Cresswell completed his duty as the hosts’ fourth kicker.

Jack Grealish had time to extend the breath of Man City when his shot towards the middle of a goal. However, Said Benrahma stepped up to become West Ham’s hero when his shot from 12 was the goal. West Ham won 5-3 on penalties.
