INFOGRAPHIC – Second part of our exclusive ranking of cities where it is good to live with the family: real estate prices.
For a family to be happy in a city, it must also be well settled. A suitable apartment or house is often essential. You still have to have the means! Those who cannot find accommodation in large metropolises or in their city centers must either move away or go and live in the provinces.

In addition to our exclusive list of cities (with more than 50,000 inhabitants) where it is good to live with the family, we have classified those where real estate prices are the most affordable. It is not surprising to find at the top of the medium-sized cities populated by some fifty thousand inhabitants (see our ranking below). The trio is made up of Saint-Quentin (02), Montauban (82) and Niort (79). To establish this podium, we have retained four criteria: purchase prices per m², rents per m², the area available for renting for a family and the share of properties with three rooms or more in the city (see our methodology below below).
The three cities are driven by the low rents (around 8/9 euros per m²). Consequence: families have a large area of between 150 and 180 m². Add to that a substantial supply of properties with more than 3 rooms: around 81% of housing is in this case in Saint-Quentin and Montauban. Something to delight large families.

Conversely, the big cities are not celebrating in this intermediate ranking. Saint-Étienne (5th) and Brest (10th) are the only two municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants present in the top 10. Of the top 3 of the most populous cities, Marseille is the “best” ranked: 41st (out of 64 ). Lyon is 56th and Paris, where real estate prices exceed on average 10,000 euros per m², is obviously last.
