The circulation of trains on the 25 de Abril Bridge is limited due to the collapse of the cantenary – Executive Digest

The distribution of trains on the 25 de Abril Bridge, which connects Lisbon to the south bank, has been affected due to the collapse of a cantenary, an official source from Fertagus, which operates that road service, revealed today.

The same source advises travelers to look for “other solutions within the Navegante system”, such as buses or boats.

On his page on the social network Facebook, Fergatus warns that “train circulation will occur with restrictions, and as a result there will be significant delays in all circulations”.

Insisting that the cantenary collapsed at 5:30 pm, the Fertagus source said he had no estimate of when the problem would be resolved, as it is the responsibility of Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).

With a call from Lusa, an IP source confirmed the restrictions on that line, saying that “circulation has been suspended on the descending route between Sete Rios and Alvito A”, in Lisbon.

“Detours are being made in both directions on the way up between the stations mentioned”, he said, admitting that train delays are expected.

The IP source pointed out that this solution allows trains to run in both directions, but causes delays because only one track is being used.

Questioned by Lusa, the IP source said there is still no estimate as to when the situation will return to normal.

The rail link between Lisbon and the South Bank was opened on 29 July 1999 with the aim of removing cars from the 25 de Abril Bridge.

The crossing connects Roma-Areeiro stations, in Lisbon, with Setúbal and there are 10 stations on the south bank and four in the capital.

On the railway, the catenary is an overhead electrical distribution and supply system.
