Incidence, death, resuscitation … We take stock of the indicators of the Covid-19 epidemic this Tuesday, May 4 in the Var.

Deaths

The Regional Health Agency reports, in its report published Monday evening, 13 new deaths linked to Covid-19 in the department since its last bulletin, issued on Friday.

Since the start of the epidemic, the coronavirus has killed 1,828 people in the department (449 in nursing homes, 1,379 in hospitals).

Hospitalizations

They are still not going down – and that is the whole problem in the Var. This Monday, May 3, like the day before, 454 patients were simultaneously received in hospitals in the Var. That’s 13 more than before the weekend.

197 people were treated in “conventional hospitalization” (without complications) and 172 in “follow-up and rehabilitation care” (the last step in the process of caring for a patient with Covid-19).

As for the intensive care units, there were 85 patients. A figure very close to the records regularly broken in the last two weeks: even at the height of the first wave, there were not as many.

THE INCIDENCE RATE

If hospital services remain overloaded, the level of contamination continues to drop drastically in the Var.

According to the national agency for Public Health France, the incidence rate – which translates into figures the activity of the virus in a territory – has fallen below the alert threshold for the week of April 24 to 30, with exactly 217 cases for 100,000 inhabitants, over seven days, or about 300 new patients detected every day.

At the end of March, at the time of the “peak” of this third wave in the department, the indicator was close to 500.

THE RATE OF POSITIVITY

For its part, the test positivity rate (percentage of tests that turn out to be positive, over a rolling seven day period) is also down sharply after having stagnated for a long time around 10%, the alert threshold. As of April 30, it reached 6.3% (compared to 8.8% a week earlier).
