The epidemic rebound that began last March is gradually running out of steam. On the national scale on the one hand, where the average number of cases over seven days fell to 48,907 daily contaminations against 85,588 a week earlier, according to figures released on Tuesday.
Incidence rates falling everywhere
In our departments on the other hand, where the incidence rates have been falling everywhere in the last few days, even if the Jura is among the 5 departments of metropolitan France with the highest rate (697.7/100,000 inhabitants on 30 april). The Rhône is also the only one of our 5 departments to be positioned below the national average for this rate. But its decline remains marked and encouraging almost everywhere over the past 10 days: -37% in Ain, -32% in Jura, -35% in Loire, -23% in Haute-Loire and -39% in the Rhône.

Hospitalizations: no major movements
The lesser vigor of the epidemic has not yet had obvious effects in the hospital. In the Rhône, the number of people hospitalized with a Covid-19 diagnosis thus remains high (500) although very far from the peak recorded during the 5th wave (1121 on February 7) and even though the vast majority of health restrictions has been lifted since March 14. Over the past ten days, this number has even increased in Ain (from 168 to 181) but slightly decreased in Jura, Loire and Haute-Loire showing more pronounced downward trends.

Resuscitation: sawtooth in the Rhône
On the resuscitation front, the situation remains under control. Even if the curve of people hospitalized in critical care with a Covid diagnosis shows a sawtooth evolution in recent weeks in the Rhône, the department is in a downward phase: the number has fallen by 20% in the last ten days. . The figures are also down slightly in the Loire and stable everywhere else.

22 hospital deaths last week
After a boost two weeks ago (45 hospital deaths recorded from April 18 to 24), mortality indicators returned to more “standard” levels last week. Our 5 departments accumulated 22 deaths between April 25 and May 1, data closer to the 19 deaths recorded from April 11 to 17 and the 29 deaths to be deplored between April 4 and 10.

Vaccination: the 2nd booster dose with counted steps
On the vaccination front, it is now the 2nd booster dose, first recommended for over 80s and then for over 60s (1), which takes up most of the resources. Its administration is progressing essentially and little by little among the over 80s where the Rhône has largely taken the lead: 18.4% of people in this age group have received this injection against 8.5% in Haute-Loire.
(1) People aged 60 to 79 can receive their second booster dose as early as 6 months after the first booster injection or as early as 6 months after the last infection.
