The Circuit des boulevards, an ancestral race in Montluçon (Allier), should rise from its ashes on September 20, 2020

It started again like in forty? This is in any case the hope of Montluçon cycling team (TCM). The club intends to update the Circuit des boulevards, a legendary event dedicated to the kings of the little queen in the city on the banks of the Cher. Created in the 1940s, it was in full swing until the end of the last century, before gradually declining. Return scheduled for September 20, 2020.

The story

The last edition dates back to 2017, organized by the Vélo Sport Montluçonnais (VSM), but there were already only twenty-two runners. After one white year in 2018, the newly founded TCM tried to revive the machine last year. “But that came late in the calendar and the image of the race was no longer good with the teams or cyclists”, relates Bernard Sistou, president of said TCM. Lack of participants, no departure in 2019 either.

A year later, it is therefore at the very end of the summer that the story could resume its course. “This time we took the time to communicate well with all the players ”, proclaims Bernard Sistou. “The fact that our club is now labeled with the federation (FFC) also gives us more credit ».

“We really want to rehabilitate and revive this legendary race. I have memories of crowded arrivals on Boulevard de Courtais in Montluçon! “

The 2020 edition

The objective is simple but clear: “We want to offer a full afternoon of cycling, for all categories of runners: Ufolep, young people and FFC », Explains the manager. No less than seven events will be scheduled for September 20, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. The main course will be 1.4 km long, with a number of laps which will vary according to the categories.

Departures and arrivals will take place on the boulevard de Courtais, mainly at the junction with rue Bretonnie. “The peloton will first climb towards the town hall, before descending the Ditch of the cellar, then turning left on the Faubourg Saint-Pierre, to return to Boulevard de Courtais”, lists Bernard Sistou. ” We hope to have 150 runners in total, of which 40 to 50 for the main race ”.
