The Cinderella Prince: Controversy Surrounding Alexei Konsovsky’s Casting

Not everyone appreciated the artist’s talent.

Nadezhda Kosheverova and Mikhail Shapiro presented the fairy tale “Cinderella” in 1947. The film instantly gained enormous popularity, but most of all it glorified Alexei Konsovsky, who played the role of the prince.

The popular artist was showered with declarations of love and compliments. Millions of spectators from all over the country dreamed of meeting him. However, after some time it became known that the censors were initially against the artist’s participation in the film. In their opinion, Konsovsky did not look convincing on camera and did not at all correspond to the image of the prince.

“You sluggish fool, neither here nor there,” – thought the members of the artistic council.

After the release of the film, Konsovsky continued to conquer the cinema and theater stage. As a result, over the years of his career, he took part in 131 films and TV series, becoming one of the most popular artists of his generation.
