On January 23, 2021, the President of the Republic announced the creation of an independent commission on incest and sexual violence against children (CIIVISE). Therefore, two objectives were assigned to it: “To know and make known the extent of sexual violence against children and its mechanisms and to sensitize society as well as professionals in contact with children”, and “Formulate recommendations to strengthen the culture of prevention and protection in public policies ”.
On October 27, 2021, the CIIVISE issued its first opinion. Focusing on a very specific situation, the commission sheds light on the existence of mothers who, after having lodged a complaint for acts of incest, decide to remove their child from the family context and are then prosecuted for non-representation of child or withdraw custody in favor of the father suspected of incestuous sexual violence.
