WASHINGTON – Offers CIA recruit agents among citizens Russia it is further proof of this United States of America (USA) tries to weaken the country. This was announced by the Russian embassy in Washington, adding that this attempt would not have been successful.

The Russian embassy commented on a recent Wall Street Journal report, which revealed that CIA Deputy Director of Operations David Marlowe had expressed interest in recruiting Russians “disgusted” by the Ukrainian conflict, announcing that the agency was “open to business”.

“We are under no illusions about the CIA’s anti-Russian activities,” the Russian diplomatic mission to the US wrote on Telegram Russia TodayThursday (11/24/2022).

The Russian embassy added that it is an open secret that the US intelligence community is trying to destabilize the situation in Russia.

“(Marlowe’s statement) only confirms hostile actions by Washington aimed at weakening our country from within through sophisticated subversive methods,” the Russian embassy said.

It was also noted, the Russian embassy continued, that Marlowe’s words may have been motivated by a banal desire to attract public attention and to persuade Congress to increase the intelligence agency’s budget.

“One can hardly disagree with some experts who explain the CIA’s spirit of Russophobia as a desire to offset the reputational costs associated with the failure to withdraw troops from Afghanistan,” the Russian diplomatic mission said.

The Russian embassy said any attempt to sow discord in Russia was “doomed to failure”, arguing that most Russian citizens supported Moscow’s military operations in Ukraine, which began in late February.
