The governance of the University Hospital of Guadeloupe (CHUG) has decided to trigger phase 1 of the “third wave” scenario of Covid-19, as soon as possible.
So decided the medical director of the Covid crisis, Dr Bruno Jarrige, the vice-president of the establishment medical commission (CME), Dr Tania Foucan and the director general of the establishment, Gérard Cotellon.
A reinforced preventive protocol
For the CHUG, there are signs that do not lie before a fever flare.
For the past week, the number of people infected with Covid-19 has been approaching the alert threshold, in Guadeloupe. This number goes hand in hand with the number, also on the rise, of Covid + patients admitted to the Covid emergency and in hospitalization in the Pointois public hospital … not to mention the 3 people carrying the English variant of the disease, recently taken in charge. .
So, before perhaps a third wave of the epidemic, in the archipelago, the hospital services are taking the lead with, first of all, a memo written yesterday. This plans to put the caregivers back in battle order.
On the front line: Covid emergencies. They will receive support from doctors from other services.
Then, as at the height of the epidemic, last September, the CHU will push the walls.
The old canteen will once again be transformed into a resuscitation room, with 8 beds.
In the service of infectious diseases, before refueling and after 10 hospitalized patients, it is the geriatric service which will have to open its doors; A maximum of 6 patients can be accommodated in these rooms.
Finally, no more vaccination, for the general public! Only local health professionals and chronic patients at risk from the CHUG will receive the injection against Covid-19 on site. The others will be redirected to other vaccination centers in the archipelago.

A trigger approved by the UGTG
The main hospital union, UTS-UGTG, approves this move to prepare for a third wave, if it occurs. For Brigitte Amacin, assistant secretary of UTS-UGTG CHUG, the hospital is in its role.
However, the Union of Health Workers has some reservations about the organization and communication of hospital authorities.
In addition, nearly 250 caregivers and agents were contaminated during the second wave within the CHUG. So, for them, UTS-UGTG calls for suitable protective equipment.
