Vehicle Coffee in The Sky at the Glass Terrace, Nguluran Beach, District Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta has recently been in the public spotlight after the Yogyakarta Provincial Government was officially closed on Thursday (6/1) this week.
The provincial government stated that safety reasons were the basis for the decision, and considered it inappropriate to use a crane to transport restaurants up to a height of 30 meters.
Before being closed, this vehicle had attracted the attention of netizens, especially regarding the safety factor.
Then, earlier this week, Tuesday (4/1), Head of the Yogyakarta Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertrans) Aria Nugrahadi admitted that the local government had not yet received the application for the gondola operation permit.
His party had just inspected the location and found that a freight crane was used to transport people.
According to him, the use of the crane is not in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Manpower (Permenaker) Number 8 of 2020 concerning Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Lifting Aircraft and Transport Aircraft.
“So we will recommend it according to the Permenaker, because the tool is a lifting tool and a means of transporting goods, so we recommend it according to the regulations,” said Aria when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com, Tuesday (4/1).
Safe Rides Claim Manager
The management claimed to have ensured the safety factor of visitors while operating the gondola ride, and claimed to use the best steel material with a single point steel sling capable of carrying loads of up to 8 tons.
“One point is 8 tons, times 4 becomes 32 tons. That’s multiplied by two more, 64 tons. Now that’s the maximum weight lifting, but we only use the gondola 3 tons. There’s a lot left,” said CEO of Teras Kaca, Nur Nasution.
Nur revealed that crane checks are carried out routinely. The fuel used is a type of Pertadex. Likewise with officers who all claim to be experts in their fields.
“We really take care because it relates to guest safety. If necessary, I replace the sling (steel) every three months, even though the duration is yearly,” he said.
Each visitor is also required to wear a five-layer safety rope in almost all parts of the body and cannot be tampered with other than by officers.
The vehicle is closed by the provincial government
In the middle of this week, the Yogyakarta Special Region (DI) Provincial Government then closed the operation of the vehicle. DI Yogyakarta Regional Secretary Kadarmanta Baskara Aji said safety was the main point.
“We must guarantee the safety and comfort of tourists so that we can still be trusted as organizers of comfortable and safe tourist destinations,” Kadarmanta said as quoted by Antara, Thursday (6/1).
The head of the DIY Tourism Office, Singgih Rahajo, said that the use of the crane was not appropriate because the location of the rides was on the shoreline which was very dangerous for the safety of tourists.
Nur certainly regrets the closure of Teras Kaca’s innovation vehicle which is considered to be able to raise the image of Indonesian tourism in the eyes of the world.
“We accept with grace, let this Coffee in The Sky become a kind of monument on the Glass Terrace,” said Nur, Friday (7/1).
Losses Up to IDR 1 Billion
He wants to emphasize that the government also closes the operation of similar vehicles that do not even have an unsecured level of security. “Please put the rides in order too. There are still many rides that don’t have safety,” he said.
He also admitted that his party had to incur losses of up to Rp. 1 billion. “It’s close to Rp1 billion, maybe, if it goes up, hundreds of millions of expenses will come out, because I think about safety,” he said.
Nur admitted that he had no intention of establishing a similar vehicle but with equipment that met the eligibility standards. He prefers to make a new model ride on the Glass Terrace.
