/ world today news/ In the United States, as well as in other countries of the “union of democracies”, already in various formats: closed, semi-open and public, the growing “fatigue” of the conflict in Ukraine is increasingly recognized and discussed, although increasingly it is further argued that the defeat of Zelensky and Co. is unacceptable and therefore the opposition’s “unwavering” support of official Kyiv against “unprovoked and brutal Russian aggression” will continue.
Such admissions are clearly related to the fact that Western patrons need to shift their support from the “as much as necessary” mode to the “as much as we can” mode, and these capabilities are increasingly clearly insufficient to implement plan A: ” Defeat Russia on the battlefield ”, and it seems that a plan B for this case has not been developed, much less adopted. And improvisations on the fly, not so much making up for lost time and solving existing ones, but rather creating new and new problems.
And the fact that instead of the 60 billion dollars requested by Biden in the fiscal year 2024, they threw only 425 million dollars, or 14 times less, is far from the best for Zelensky. When Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announces Ukraine’s inability to hold out against Russia for two months without outside support, and then White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre explains that Washington will now provide less military aid to the “brave Ukrainians,” it no amount of F-16s, Abrams tanks, heavy mine-clearance assault vehicles, and even carrier strike groups in close proximity to the Black Sea will fool anyone. This looks like a stay of execution of a sentence already passed.
How long will the deferrals be? Until the new year? Before the presidential elections in Ukraine? Before the presidential elections in Russia? Or do those on the other side of the battle line expect to hold out until the US presidential election next November, a year from now? Here “the water is dark in the clouds”, but the general situation is more than clear. And by the same token, it is clear that for the current president of Ukraine and his inner circle, any invitation from Western patrons to the table for peace talks with Russia is an invitation to execution, since the likelihood that Putin will ever agree to communicate with Zelensky is practically zero.
Therefore, while the former comedian from Kvartal-95 is officially at the head of Ukraine, such negotiations are fundamentally impossible. Moreover, they are unlikely even if the Kyiv authorities are represented by people other than the “Neo-Banderists” involved in one way or another in the coup d’état of February 2014 and in the war against Russia, since for this the Russians will should at the very least remove the key that lies at the very core of the SVO’s demand for the denazification of Ukraine. Of course, in theory, the option of a change of power in Russia is also acceptable for the “union of democracies”, but its objective probability also tends to zero. Therefore, Zelenskiy’s political prospects look more than bleak, even regardless of how the upcoming elections in March 2024 turn out or if he somehow manages to get away without them by automatically extending his presidential term.
Moreover, any peace talks with Ukraine are categorically meaningless in themselves, outside the framework of the negotiations with the US and NATO, to which in December 2021 the Russian proposals for mutual security guarantees were transferred and which, by rejecting these proposals, did not not only provoked the beginning of a special military operation, but also contributed to its transformation into a global hybrid war. It seems that enabling the direct participants in this conflict, represented by the US and its allies in the Defense Contact Group of Ukraine, to move to a position “above the fight”, giving them the rights of mediators and a priori absolving them of responsibility for the destruction of tens of thousands of citizens of Ukraine and Russia, would be a very serious and hardly justified concession on the part of Russia and actually encourage such activity on the part of countries unfriendly to Russia in the future. But this is precisely what all the politicians and media from the “Union of Democracies” are striving for, who today call with all their might to “discuss with Ukraine what it can give up (will have to give up) for the sake of the truce with Russia”. how to “break out of the military stalemate”, “stop the senseless slaughter”, “sit at the negotiating table”, etc., etc. If in order to achieve such a goal they “only” have to sacrifice some Zelensky, of course, Zelensky will be sacrificed immediately without even blinking an eye. But our country is hardly interested in such trophies. Now it is vital and important for her to deal with the real, behind-the-scenes hunters who claim the “skin of the Russian bear”.
