The Christmas tree arrived at New York’s Rockefeller Center on Saturday

A 75-foot Norway spruce was driven to Manhattan’s Center Plaza, where it was lifted into place by crane. It takes about eight kilometers of light guards with more than 50,000 multi-colored LED bulbs to cover the tree, which has a diameter of 13 meters. A crown of Swarovski stars glittering with three million crystals crowns the tree.

The tall evergreen, brought by the Albert family from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, was cut down Thursday morning and loaded onto a flatbed truck for the 140-mile trip. This is the first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree to come from Massachusetts since 1959.

He was greeted in New York by a laughing crowd holding cell phones aloft behind barriers, while crews attached cables to the giant tree, driving stuff into her base and guide her into place.

“There was a big crowd today. “It was one of the biggest crowds I’ve ever seen to see a tree installation,” said Erik Pauze, head gardener at Rockefeller Center, who wore a candy-striped hard hat.

He first saw the tree in 2020 while looking for another tree. Once he was in his new home, the changes began to prepare him for the complex undertaking that was to come.

“We applied it, and now we are going to reduce some of the branches by hand, because they are so heavy and big that we have to reduce them by hand,” said Pauze.

The lighting event will take place on December 4.

When the tree is taken down in January, it will be turned into lumber for the Habitat for Humanity group.
