This is THE weak link in the electric car: city centers have very few fast terminals.
Even though slow loads develop slowly, the need for stations displaying high powers remains essential in urban areas : taxis, VTC, car sharing, going on vacation, transit… today, most ad-hoc stations are on the motorways.
In Lyon for example, there are only 2 really fast stations (in Gerland and Bron), none in the hyper-center and in the other municipalities of Grand-Lyon. Fortunately, things are changing and some dealers, who often already own the land, see this as an opportunity to attract customers and satisfy current ones, via terminals directly available on the site.
This is the case of the Chopard Group, which has dozens of concessions in France, and which has joined forces with Electra to deploy fast charging stations for electric vehicles in its dealerships. The group will open 8 sites initially, i.e. 56 charging points of at least 100kW for the fastest terminals. A first hub in Lyon (Smart Ecully) will open its doors in May 2022.
The price per kWh is set at €0.44/kWh including tax, which remains in the average of fast terminals (Tesla, Total, Fastned …), while Ionity only offers these prices with a fairly high monthly subscription. Payment is made via an app, bank card or recharge badge – with roaming for some.
