They already have experience in Škoda due to the lack of chips due to the lack of chips. But German Volkswagen factories are now struggling with similar problems. The production of Golf and Tiguan in Wolfsburg was stopped earlier, but Volkswagen could still produce electric cars that were given priority over combustion models and parts were available for them.
But now there have been electric cars and two main factories in Dresden and Zwickau will stop production. The shutdown is expected to last a week and will mean about 5,000 unproduced cars. In addition to the Volkswagen, the problem also affects the Audi and Cupra brands.
The production of the popular ID3 and ID4 models, as well as the Audi Q4 e-tron and Cupra Born, take place in Cvikov. It can therefore be expected that the availability of these cars may be worse in the short term.
The electric car segment is very important for the entire Volkswagen Group. In the third quarter of this year, the group produced 122,100 pure battery electric cars. This represents an increase of 109% over the same period last year. Volkswagen will want to continue growing, so any outages certainly do not play into his cards.
